Sterling with the wedding date
A bracelet, a pendant, cufflinks or a money clip, engraved with the date or their initials. Look for the "925" or "sterling" mark: under the FTC's Jewelry Guides only metal with at least 92.5 percent silver may be sold as sterling. Silver-plated pieces carry a thin layer over another metal that can wear through.
The wedding photo in a silver frame
Put the photo from the day next to one from this year. Ask a parent or an aunt for the original print, since a scan of a 2001 photo often looks better than any phone copy.
Their first dance song
On a record if they still have a player, or played at the party with the two of them on the floor again.
Back to the place

Our example is Karen and Tom, made-up names, married at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan on August 18, 2001. The poster draws the sky at 9 pm by the sun, which was 10:38 pm on the island's clocks that night.

What was in the sky over 2001 and 2002 weddings
Couples married in 2001 have their silver anniversary in 2026, and 2002 weddings in 2027. For every Saturday of those years we worked out the poster's sky over nine US cities: the star the "Our star" design circles most often, and the planets 10 degrees or more up at the same hour on most of those nights.

- June 2001: Mars at its brightest in yearsMars was opposite the Sun on June 13, 2001 and closest to Earth on June 22, 2001, about 42 million miles away, at magnitude minus 2.4. Over June weddings it hung low in the south, up to 33 degrees high, orange and brighter than any star.
- Spring 2002: all five bright planets at onceFrom Apr 15 to May 19, 2002, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn were all above the western horizon at the end of dusk, on 35 evenings in a row over Kansas City. A wedding party that stepped outside after sunset could see all five.
Then and now: why we do not sell a pair
A "then and now" pair sounds lovely: the sky on the wedding night and the sky on the 25th anniversary. We checked what it would look like. For every date of 2001 and the same date in 2026, the poster's sky turns by 0.1 degrees at most, and the circled star is the same on 99.9 percent of nights, over the same nine cities. The stars come back to almost the same place on the same date every year. Side by side, the two posters would look the same apart from the year.

Questions
What is the traditional gift for a 25th anniversary?
Silver. The usual US lists give silver for 25 years twice, as the traditional gift and as the modern one. Most years get two different materials.
What do grown kids give their parents for a 25th?
Something with their own story in it: their wedding picture framed in silver, a dinner back at the venue, letters from family, or a print of the sky over their wedding night with "Mom & Dad" on it. Siblings often split one framed piece.
Can you make a star map for a wedding 25 years ago?
Yes. The editor lists every year back to 1930 and takes any place you can type. The sky is worked out for that night, so a 2001 wedding gets the 2001 sky.
Is there silver on the poster?
No. We print on matte fine art paper and do not use silver ink or foil. For a silver touch, pair the poster with a small sterling piece, or pick the white frame, which reads light and clean next to the Navy design.
What if they are not sure of the exact place?
Type the church, the hall or just the town. The stars over places a few miles apart look the same, and the small street map centers on what you typed.
When should I order for the party?
Delivery in the US takes 4 to 8 business days, so place the order at least a week and a half before the party. Two weeks ahead leaves room for anything.
