What is printed on it

This is a wedding night sky print. You give us the venue, the wedding date and the names. We work out the sky over that spot for the evening and print it above a street map of the venue. The poster shown here is the Under the same stars design in Blush.

Real example nights

The couples are made up; each sky is worked out for that place and date.

Saturday, August 17, 2019, Santa Monica Pier

Say Mia and Noah married on the sand at five and were dancing by the pier after dark. This is the poster at the top of the page.

Vega stood about 85 degrees up, nearly overhead, with Deneb in the northeast and Altair in the southeast, both above 60 degrees. Arcturus and Antares sat low in the west and southwest. A waning gibbous moon, 94 percent lit, sat about 8 degrees above the eastern horizon.

Saturday, June 10, 2023, Napa, California

Picture a vineyard ceremony and dinner under string lights. On the Our star design, this poster would circle and name Arcturus.

Arcturus stood about 71 degrees up in the south with Spica below it, with Vega about 40 degrees up in the east and Regulus lower in the west. The last quarter moon, 46 percent lit, had not risen.

Saturday, October 22, 2022, Nashville, Tennessee

Imagine a church wedding downtown and a fall reception that ran late. Here Our star would name Deneb.

Deneb was about 61 degrees up in the northwest, Vega lower in the same part of the sky and Altair in the west. Capella sat low in the northeast. A waning crescent moon, 6 percent lit, was down at 9 pm.

Saturday, September 14, 2024, Boston, Massachusetts

A courthouse wedding in the morning, a family dinner that night. Our star would name Vega.

Vega was about 67 degrees up in the west and Deneb about 87, close to straight up. Altair was about 55 degrees up in the south, and a waxing gibbous moon, 87 percent lit, hung about 26 degrees up in the south too.

The time and the place to use

The poster always shows the sky at about 9 pm local sun time. That is worked out from the longitude, so it can differ from the clock by up to an hour. For most weddings it lands on the reception or the first dance. A two o’clock ceremony still gets the stars that came out over the same place that evening. You cannot pick another hour.

For the place, type the venue name or address: a church, a vineyard, a beach, a courthouse, a backyard. The city works too. If the ceremony and reception were in two places, use the one you want on the wall; the reception is usually where you were at 9 pm.

Which design suits a wedding

Under the same stars puts the venue streets big in the middle, with the sky across the top. Our star uses a round sky and circles the brightest named star that was high over the venue that night, with a line such as "Vega was shining right above us." Its street map is small.

What to write on the names line

Up to 40 characters, any words: two first names, a shared surname such as The Alvarez Family, or a short line from the vows.

Questions

What time of night does the wedding star map show?

It shows the sky at about 9 in the evening, local sun time, worked out from the venue’s longitude. The hour cannot be changed.

Our ceremony was in the afternoon. Does a star map of our wedding night still work?

Yes. You get that evening’s sky over the venue, which for most weddings means the reception.

Can I order it after the wedding?

Yes. A star map of the wedding date shows the same sky whether you order a week later or ten years later.

Is the moon on the poster?

It is not drawn; you get the stars and constellation lines only.

Can I send it straight to the couple?

Yes. Pick the gift option at checkout and add a note if you like.

What if I spell a name wrong?

Write to studio@meridianplate.com right away. Until it is printed we correct it.
